North Star Heating & Air Conditioning, a Lehi-based HVAC contractor operating since 1998, has announced a seasonal air conditioning maintenance program running from May 13 through June 30, 2024. The program offers residential customers a $25 tune-up service as part of the company's pre-summer preparation schedule.
The announcement comes as the U.S. Department of Energy reports that regular HVAC maintenance can reduce energy consumption by up to 30 percent while preventing approximately 95 percent of all air conditioning repairs. Industry data indicates that unmaintained cooling systems are three times more likely to fail during peak usage periods, typically occurring during the first heat wave of summer.

"Scheduling maintenance before June allows our technicians to identify and address potential issues when parts are readily available and service schedules are more flexible," said Terry Kelsch, owner of North Star Heating & Air Conditioning. "The timing aligns with manufacturer recommendations for annual spring maintenance checks."
The maintenance program includes inspection of cooling system components, cleaning of coils and filters, refrigerant level verification, and system performance testing. These procedures follow standards established by the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) for residential HVAC maintenance.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, proper air conditioning maintenance can extend equipment life by five to seven years beyond the typical 15-year lifespan. The agency also notes that clean, well-maintained systems operate at closer to their rated efficiency, reducing both energy costs and environmental impact.
North Star Heating & Air Conditioning in Lehi serves residential customers throughout Salt Lake County and Utah County, including the communities of Sandy, West Jordan, and specific Lehi neighborhoods such as Traverse Mountain, Ivory Ridge, Jordan Willows, Spring Creek Ranch, and Thanksgiving Meadows. The company provides air conditioning installation and repair, furnace services, heat pump systems, duct cleaning, and indoor air quality services.
"Utah's climate presents unique challenges with its dry air and temperature variations," added Kelsch. "Regular maintenance helps systems adapt to these conditions while maintaining efficiency."
The National Air Duct Cleaners Association recommends annual HVAC inspections as part of home maintenance routines, particularly in regions with significant temperature fluctuations. Utah experiences temperature swings of up to 40 degrees Fahrenheit between day and night during transitional seasons, placing additional stress on cooling systems.
The company's technicians service all major brands and models of air conditioning equipment. The maintenance program operates alongside the company's regular installation, repair, and emergency service offerings.
North Star Heating & Air Conditioning operates from its facility at 3300 Triumph Blvd Suite 107 in Lehi, Utah. The second-generation, family-owned business has provided HVAC services to Utah communities for over 25 years. The company assists customers with federal tax credit applications and local utility rebate programs for energy-efficient equipment upgrades and offers financing options through Synchrony for equipment replacement projects.
